BIOGRAPHY
Kenneth Burris is a New York based artist whose work examines constructed systems, natural forces, and the transformations that move between them. He builds landscapes in which infrastructure, technological order, time, and erosion occupy the same field.
His practice works across drawing, three dimensional modeling, AI directed image development, print, and oil painting. The process is recursive rather than sequential. A decision made late in a painting can return him to an earlier drawing or model, and works produced at any stage may stand on their own or contribute to a larger one.
Two series are in development. Systems Becoming Landscape examines environments shaped by infrastructure and technological transition. Data Becoming Form works from verified network data, drawn from the Bitcoin blockchain, translated into terrain. The source is fixed. The interpretation is not.
This process led to the Direction Provenance Model, a working framework for locating authorship across a distributed process. The model emerged from the studio rather than being applied to it, and it continues to be revised by the work it was written to describe.
Burris publishes the Post-Globalist Letters, an ongoing series of essays on authorship, acceleration, and the value of human work under conditions of automated production. He has exhibited in New York and internationally since 2010 and is a recipient of the Queens Council on the Arts New Work Grant.
